Barite and fluorite at Mesa de Los Santos and Pescadero, Santander

Abstract
Fluorite seams associated with the marginal porphyritic phases of the Pescadero Granite are found in the vicinity of Pescadero. In addition, barite seams are commonly found cutting the sediments around Mesa de Los Santos.
A study of the host rock of the fluorite seams (granite) shows visible alteration along the mineralized structures (silicification, sericitization). No indication that the granite is the source of the fluorite mineralization was found. Thin sections of biomicrites collected from the Rosablanca Formation show no evidence of sedimentary preconcentration or diagenetic remobilization of barium ore.
There are indications that barite and fluorspar form, in the area, part of the same mineral association.
The tectonic study of small -scale structural elements shows that the mineralizations are associated with minor faults with E-W and NW-SE directions.
