Abstract
The present compendium deals with the preliminary study of the clays of the Sabana de Bogotá and their possible industrial applications. The area studied so far includes the municipalities of: Guasca, La Calera, Sopó, Tocancipá, Gachancipá, Tausa, Sutatausa, Zipaquirá, Cajicá, Chía, Cota, Tenjo, Tabio, Bojacá, Bosa, Engativá, Facatativá, Fontibón, Funza, Madrid, Mosquera, Soacha, Suba, Subachoque, Usaquén, and Usme.
During the study, 658 samples were taken, and 248 drill holes were drilled, with a total of 1611 meters drilled. Proven reserves of clay of all classes are estimated at 4877 million cubic meters of material. However, as the Savannah is intensively used for agriculture, this volume cannot be fully exploited.
All the municipalities studied have the advantage of having good access roads, which will facilitate the transport of the final product to its main consumption center, Bogotá.
