Abstract

At the Soils Department of the Geographic Institute of Colombia "Agustín Codazzi" request, a stratigraphic sketch of the Sabana de Bogotá has been prepared, attached with its corresponding columns. The Department of Photogeology of the National Geological Institute will make a detailed geological map of the same area.

Apart from the stratigraphy, the useful materials of the soil and subsoil of the sketched area are characterized in this report. Another aim is to standardize the stratigraphic nomenclature.

The Sabana de Bogotá is a complex Tertiary basin that extends the Cretaceous subsidence of the Eastern Cordillera area into the Oligocene and, intermittently, into the Pleistocene and locally into the Holocene.
