Abstract

This report results from the general geological reconnaissance carried out in the Cartago-Zarzal sector in the north of the department of Valle del Cauca to establish the conditions of the exploitability of the existing diatomite deposits in that region.

An outline is given of how the deposits are formed, how they accumulate, the type of diatoms presents in the area, how they are exploited, and a list of the uses of diatomaceous earth.

Based on the surveys carried out, an estimate is made of the possible existence of diatomaceous earth.
