Abstract
In the study of limestone for establishing a cement factory in the region of El Cerrejón, the existence of limestone deposits of large proportions that would allow the construction of one or more large factories in this region was verified. Given the current conditions of the international market for this product, the ease of exploitation of the mines, and the position of the limestone for the coal deposits of El Cerrejón, this deposit is considered economically exploitable, if it is not the factory that must build the railroad or aerial cable and the port for cement shipment. Finally, a brief account is made of the situation and possibilities of gypsum in La Guajira, which is currently favorable.
The geological part is about the formations El Cerrejón, Agua Nueva, and Girón, and the Cretaceous rocks and extrusive igneous rocks of the basement.
