Abstract
This document is the result of the compilation and review of the basic principles of environmental management that have been established at the national level, especially from the Political Constitution of 1991; Law 99 of 1993; Law 685 of 2001 of the New Mining Code, as well as outlining the ISO 14001 tool, to take actions aimed at achieving maximum rationality in the decision-making process related to conservation, defense, protection and improvement of the environment, based on coordinated interdisciplinary information, where citizen participation plays an important role so that projects are developed in better harmony with the social and environmental surroundings.
The following main chapters were established to develop the thematic of Environmental Management: general concepts of environmental management, legal, administrative, social, and economic components. In addition, the case of the environmental management of mineral resources is taken as an example since their exploitation and benefit cause great environmental impact in the physical environment, but without which, it is not possible the sustainable economic development of the nations.
