Abstract
This study was designed to adequately understand the origin of the torrential phenomena that affect the population of Pijao (Quindío), and to identify the morphodynamic processes at work and their impact on the deterioration of the Lejos river basin.
Using the "package" ILWIS version 1.21 (Integrated Land and Water Information System), developed by ITC of Holland, information from six thematic maps were crossed, representing the important factors in triggering the processes. The result was two maps of terrain susceptibility to mass movements and landslides, showing those with the greatest relative incidence.
The thematic maps used in the analysis were:
Geological, Geomorphological, Agricultural Land Use, Slopes, Isotopes, and Morphodynamic Processes. The susceptibility maps obtained divide the territory into Very High, High, Medium, Low, and Minimum, according to the degree of propensity to mass movements and landslides.
Approximately 20% of the basin has very high, 40% high, 30% medium, and 10% low susceptibility to mass movements and landslides; no areas of minimum susceptibility were found.
