Resumen

La carga de las corrientes de agua está afectada por dos procesos muy distintos, a saber: a) abrasión y alteración debida a los agentes químicos durante el transporte, incluyendo ruptura o fragmentación de los guijarros en ruta, y b) acción separadora (sorting action) o transporte selectivo. Siendo casi imposible determinar por observación directa del material transportado por las corrientes de agua, cuál es la disminución en el tamaño debida a uno u otro de estos procesos, el investigador de sedimentos tiene que separar cada uno de ellos en el laboratorio, donde pueden ser estudiados independientemente por medio de experimentos.

Con este objeto se han usado barriles rotatorios para estudiar la abrasión. En este aparato la carga se somete al desgaste conservando su identidad durante el experimento.

Esta tesis se refiere ci fragmentos de tamaño entre 4 y 6 mm de diámetro (pebble range), y es un intento para observar los efectos de abrasión en cuanto se refiera al tamaño, la esfericidad y la redondez.
