Abstract
This outline describes in the first part the general geographic conditions of an extensive copper-bearing formation that occurs in many parts of the western slope of the Serranía de Perijá and some places in the southern part of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The second part deals with the rocks and mineralization (copper, coal, limestones), geological structures, and historical geology of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the Cesar and Ranchería river basin, and the Serranía de Perijá.
This sketch is a complement to the report "The Cupriferous Formation of the Serranía de Perijá" published in the present Geological Bulletin, number 3, 1957. However, by increasing the budget, the Service can commit itself to much more intense and effective work for the benefit of the national economy.
