Abstract
In developing a plan for the full and effective utilization of Colombia's vast underground water resources, the National Geological Survey is now engaged in promoting the use of groundwater for irrigation. The first stage of this plan, the use of wells for public water supply in cities and towns, has been accepted and has its own momentum. In promoting groundwater use for irrigation, our intention is large-scale, technical, economic, and organized exploitation. This initiative deserved the attention of the Ministry of Agriculture, which gave it a warm welcome. At the request of the Instituto de Fomento Algodonero, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum issued Resolution number 41 of 1958 so that a Commission of the National Geological Service could go to Codazzi, Magdalena, and study the possibilities of using the groundwater resources of that area for the irrigation of the progressive cotton plantations of that region.
